How to Properly Execute a Jump Shot

0

Basketball is a sport that is loved by many people all over the word, regardless of sex, age, and race. The game involves both offense and defense. Defense is an important part of the game because it limits the scoring opportunity of your opponents. However, in order to win the game, a basketball team must also have a good offense so they can outscore their opponents. There are many types of shooting techniques that enables a player to have a shooting opportunity despite being defended. One such shooting technique is called the jump shot.

The jump shot is basically a normal shot. Despite that, if it is executed properly, it is shot that gives a player a momentary opportunity to shoot by faking a drive move to distract the defender, and executing a high jump to shoot and avoid being blocked. This makes the jump shot a big deal to master because it enables a team to score. However, in order for a jump shot to become a powerful offensive weapon, you need to practice executing this technique over and over until it becomes second nature to you. Listed below are the steps on improving your jump shot:

Foot Placement – when executing a jump shot, it is essential that your feet are about shoulder-width apart to have good stability.

Hands – once you catch the ball, you need to be ready to shoot any time. Make sure that the ball does not rest in the palm of your shooting hand but on its fingertips. This will help to get the backspin you need when shooting the ball.

Jump – shooting without jumping will make it quite easy for the defender to block your shot. This makes it important to jump high up in the air and shoot the ball when you are at the peak of your jump.

Shoot – when releasing your shot, make sure to give it some backspin on its release by snapping your wrist smoothly. It is important not to force the shot as there is a high chance that the shot will not go in.

Confidence – practicing the shot over and over again will give you the confidence when executing the shot.

The jump shot is not a shot that you will master overnight. It is important that you practice and practice this shooting technique until it becomes second nature to you. This will help to make it an explosive offensive weapon when playing the game.

Types of Basketball Passes

Basketball is a game that many people love. It is a game that doesn’t just involve shooting, blocking, and defending, but also passing. Passing is considered as an important skill in the game of basketball because passing gives the team the offensive opportunity to score, especially when the pass has been tactically made. The truth is passing can also be considered as a part of defense because it allows the team to keep possession of the ball when the ball handler is heavily defended. Passing requires the communication between two players, whether verbally or nonverbally. The lists below are some of the many ways to pass the ball:

Chest Pass – this is the first type of pass taught to students. It is a pass that is executed with the ball held with both hands at the level of the chest. This type of pass is high velocity pass.

Bounce Pass – if a pass cannot be given directly to a teammate due to heavy defense, the bounce pass is executed because it redirects the ball from the floor towards the receiver. The ball can be accurately passed this way by making estimates of the distance of the receiver along with the trajectory and speed of the ball.

Overhead Pass – this type of pass is executed with the ball held with both hands behind the head. This is an ideal pass when being heavily guarded.

Behind the Back Pass – this pass is executed with the ball cupped by the fingers and wrist and slung to receiver with the ball passing the back of the ball handler.

Alley-oop Pass – this is perhaps the most difficult pass to execute and defend against. This pass is accomplished with a tossing motion near the basketball hoop wherein a receiver jumps up to catch the ball and execute a slam dunk. Timing is the most crucial element for this pass.
